Discover the best science fiction movies on Netflix 2022

Whether you're more into science fiction, a spaceship floating in the vast nebula or an apocalyptic glimpse of our time-traveling future, War of the Worlds or Star Trek, this content is made for you.

Netflix is full of science fiction movies, including recent sci-fi films like I Am Mother or Annihilation. We've listed our ten favorite sci-fi movies. Embark into space or on a great journey through time with these ten cult films of the genre, available on Netflix.

Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve revisits Ridley Scott

Thirty years after the events of the first game, K (Ryan Gosling), a Blade Runner tasked with eliminating rebellious androids, sets out in search of his predecessor Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford)... and his own humanity. Without reaching the poetic heights of Ridley Scott's masterpiece, Denis Villeneuve has created a virtuoso homage, imbued with a poignant melancholy. A great movie, for sure.

Bird Box, Sandra Bullock tries to survive, between science fiction and horror

While Malorie (Sandra Bullock) is pregnant, a mysterious force sweeps across the Earth, driving people to suicide. With few survivors, the young woman understands that the evil spreads through the eyes, with those who keep them open quickly losing their lives. Susanne Bier's production, which effectively alternates between flashbacks at the time of the discovery of the threat and a desperate escape down the river several years later, plunges into the heart of the chaos.

The cast is real, featuring, in addition to Sandra Bullock, John Malkovich and Sarah Paulson. Somewhere between A Quiet Place, which hit theaters this summer, M. Night Shyamalan's Phenomena, where nature turned against man and Evil Dead, here is an ambitious and frankly successful production, halfway between horror and science fiction. Bird Box is one to watch with your eyes wide open and your heart strong!

Oxygen, the 2021 science fiction movie to watch on Netflix

A young woman wakes up in a cryogenic capsule. Her memory has disappeared and her oxygen will quickly run out... Scary? For the Great App editorial staff, "the pitch is crazy, it's really radical, there's nothing scarier than this deadly countdown, in terms of staging and acting, it's a real tour de force".

Mélanie Laurent is all over the place in this intelligent scenario, which takes us far afield, and glazed with many twists and turns, also very strong. Enough to keep you fascinated from start to finish in this suspenseful movie that can be seen as a metaphor for confinement.

Midnight in the universe, 2020, George Clooney at the top

A scientist left alone on an ice floe tries to prevent the return of a space mission to Earth wiped out by a disaster. George Clooney, moving in the lead role, signs a masterpiece of melancholy that mixes a spectacular survival movie and an intimate search between Gravity and Ad Astra.

Elysium, Matt Damon dives into the future!

In the year 2154, rich and privileged people live comfortably in the space city of Elysium, while on the devastated Earth, the poor crowd into slums by the millions. Until a half-man, half-worker (Matt Damon) revolts. Signed by the author of District 9, this anticipatory pamphlet transposes the class struggle into space. Simplistic, but visually stunning.

Minority Report, a cult science fiction film starring Tom Cruise, directed by Steven Spielberg

The hero of The War of the Worlds directed by Steven Spielberg in a visionary science fiction movie. That can only be cult! Released in 2002, Minority Report is set in the year 2054.

John Anderton, head of the experimental government organization PreCrime, which aims to prevent crimes before they happen, finds himself in a race against time to prove his innocence when an image of him committing a murder is revealed. Minority Report is an adaptation of a short story by Philip K. Dick.
